AN AUTOMOTIVE EXTRAVAGANZA FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE DEPLOYED MINNESOTA TROOPS

I had seen the bumper stickers everywhere, Support Our Troops. To me it was a sentiment I agreed with, but it left me feeling a bit hollow. I guess because I really wasn’t doing anything tangible to support the troops.

    But, what could I do?
Then it occurred to me that I could raise awareness and dollars through my role as president of the North Star Region of the Cadillac-LaSalle Club. The question about what could I do, became a question of what could we do. The Upper Midwest Region Classic Car Club of America (UMR-CCCA) has come alongside to help sponsor and participate in the event.  What started as a few members promising to show cars has snowballed into what promises to be a very big event.

    What can you do?
    First:
Spread the word so that others will be aware of the event.
Second:   Support our Troops by making a contribution to Victory Drive.  Some people and organizations have pledged $500 some $5,000.  We need every donation large or small
to meet our goal to support our Minnesota troops.

On Sunday, September 9, 2007 we will host an automotive extravaganza for the benefit of deployed Minnesota troops and their families. This event will take place at the Veterans Memorial Park near 64th and Portland Avenue South in Richfield. The event will run from 9:00 a.m. until 3 p.m.  The event will feature hundreds of vintage cars and fire engines, an honor guard ceremony, drum and bugle corps program, special music.

     Why are we doing this?
We are aiming to raise $50,000 to directly benefit our Minnesota Troops. Many of them have special needs due to the extended tours the war has required. Our goal is that this event will raise a substantial amount of money to be used to support the troops. 100% of donations raised will go directly to programs that benefit the troops — we have no over-head costs.  Each individual and organization involved in making this great event happen will contribute their time, talents and special resources.  Money, postage, printing and marketing have all been donated to get the job done and the word out.   We need you to help.  Spread the word and make a financial commitment.

My simple question about what I could possibly do to support the troops has turned in to a resounding, here’s what we’re going to do to support the troops. More and more people are getting involved in Victory Drive every day. Please join us!
