Many have asked how the money raised at
the previous Victory Drive car shows has been spent. All requests for
funds came from Vern Truax of the Minnesota Family Assistance Center. They
were approved by a committee made up of members of North Star Region
Cadillac-LaSalle Club, the Gopher State Buick Club, and the UMR Classic
Car Club.
All benefactors truly needed our help. We’ve helped by providing funds
for:
PX cards for wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital
Several car repairs
Airline tickets for a soldier to be home with his wife during
her open heart surgery
Funeral expenses for a still-born baby
Building materials for a home damaged by water
Two weeks at camp for a disabled boy
Help for a family which was short of money at Christmas time
Tank heater for a truck owned by a soldier
150 Care Bears for soldiers’ children
Care Packages
for overseas troops
Vern stated that most of the latest requests for assistance have been
forwarded to the Military Family Care Initiative, a very successful
organization created by Governor Pawlenty’s wife. Because of their very
successful campaign, they have been able to help in each instance. When
Victory Drive 2005 took place, there was a great need for our help. As
circumstances have changed so our focus has changed too.
Instead of helping the family members left back home in Minnesota, we will
be providing direct benefits to the deployed troops. Through the Victory
Drive event we have the ability to raise funds, and our goal has always
been to support our troops.
So what do we need to do?
Show up on September 9th between 9AM and 3PM with your cars.
Invite all your friends to bring their cars.
LET’S ALL HELP!
